3 Arrested In Connection With Fatal Santa Monica Shooting

SANTA MONICA ( —Three men have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday a mile away from Santa Monica College.
Police responded the scene in the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue around 8:15 a.m., when a suspect allegedly walked up to two men and began shooting before fleeing in a vehicle.
Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis told City News Service 19-year-old Christopher Chonan Osumi and 23-year-old Meliton Lorenzo Lopez were arrested less than an hour after the incident.
The suspects were tracked to the 1500 block of Armacost Avenue, two-and-a-half miles away.
Both suspects face charges of murder, attempted murder and being involved in a criminal street gang.
They are being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
A third suspect, 32-year-old Noah Jason Farris, was booked on suspicion of being an accessory and for participating in a criminal street gang, along with a revocation of his post-release community supervision, according to CNS.
Farris was being held without bail on Wednesday.
Lewis said 29-year-old Santa Monica resident Gil Verastegui was hospitalized after the shooting but later died from his injuries.
The second victim remains in critical condition. His name has not been released.
The incident occurred less than a week after Friday’s shooting rampage near Santa Monica College.
John Zawahri is accused of killing five people and injuring five others during the spree that carried from city streets to the school’s library, where he was gunned down by police and killed.
