Please note that the Huntington Beach jail is simply a holding facility. If you're being detained at this facility your goal should be to bail out before getting transferred to the Orange County Jail. Because of their size, some of the local city jails have to transfer people for overcrowding. The bail release process at a local jail can take a few hours versus the county jail, which can be 8 to 24 hours.

The Huntington Beach Police Department is located on the corner of Yorktown Ave and Main Street, less than two miles from the Huntington Beach Pier. After you park, simply walk toward the city hall building. The Jail is located to the right, just past the front doors of city hall, down the stadium looking stairs and off to the right. You should find dotted lines on the ground leading right up to the jail. When you get to the jail door, ring the bell and the jailer will buzz you in.

Bail is simply the release of an individual in exchange for security. The bail bond company writes a check to the jail for the total amount of the bond guaranteeing that the individual will appear in court at a given time and place.

There are two important terms to understand when working with a bail company, premium and collateral.

Premium: the fee for our services that is paid in advance, non-refundable and renewable on an annual basis should the case go over a year. The bail premium is normally 10% of the total amount of the bond but exceptions can apply. Other fees may include actual, necessary and reasonable expense incurred in connection with the transaction. The court determines the amount of the bond.

Collateral: normally secured within the approximate value of the bond and returned in full when the case is closed. Collateral is usually one of four things, cash, cars, real estate and in some cases, a signature of an individual that qualifies to be financially responsible to secure the bond. If you anticipate the return of collateral make sure to obtain the proper documentation from the court that proves the case is closed.
